On our Dory trips, we often hike Saddle Canyon, it is a hidden treasure with a waterfall dressed up in columbines, monkey flowers and ferns. I have sat and with peaceful intent painted looking out towards the river many times. In 1972 when I journeyed here the first time there wasn't a trail. We hiked and climbed up the boulder field in the canyon below where the created traverse trail is now. Our friend Kenton Gura leading the way, told us that "no one knows about this secret place, so let's not tell anyone." Little did we know that in just a few years, darn near every river trip would be hiking there, creating a path from an exsisting deer trail on the high slope above the drainage.
